To Lead as They Lived

Because the greatest tribute we can offer... is to lead as they lived — with conviction, compassion, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves.

As we honor Memorial Day in the United States, we pause not only to remember the fallen — but to reflect on what they stood for: duty, sacrifice, and an unyielding commitment to something greater than themselves.

Leadership, like service, is rarely loud. It is found in the quiet acts of courage, the everyday choices to elevate others, and the unwavering commitment to something beyond personal gain.

Today, we remember. We remember the cost. We remember the bravery. We remember the calling.

And so, in honor of those who’ve led with their lives, we offer this poem — a tribute to service, sacrifice, and the sacred responsibility of leadership.

It’s not about titles, or standing above,
True leadership stems from purpose and love.
Not driven by gain, or climbing a chart,
But by lifting up others — straight from the heart.

It’s the voice in the room that invites every voice,
The hand that gives others the power of choice.
It’s culture built daily with care and with grace,
A commitment to make this world a better place.

We lead not to shine, but to help others grow,
To water the seeds so their brilliance can show.
To build something lasting, together, as one —
A mission much greater than what we’ve begun.

With empathy present and truth as our guide,
We hold space for courage, with nothing to hide.
We rise through connection, through trust we ignite,
A future made stronger by choosing what’s right.

So today, as we honor the brave who gave all,
Let’s lead in their memory — stand steady, stand tall.
The service mindset, their legacy's flame,
Lives on in each leader who honors their name.

Let us carry forward not just the memory of those who served — but the values they embodied. Memorial Day is not only a moment of remembrance, but a call to action: to lead with humility, to serve with heart, and to live with purpose.

May we honor their legacy not just with words, but with the way we show up each day — choosing courage over comfort, integrity over indifference, and people over position.

Because the greatest tribute we can offer… is to lead as they lived — with conviction, compassion, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves.
