Sunday Thinking

"Do not expect people to tell you the truth because they also lie to themselves."

The weekly Sunday Thinking newsletter is quick-hit content that aims to provide a booster shot to your thought process as you end and start your week.

"You are more than what you've been through. If I learned anything, it's this: Life is filled with some of the wildest twists and turns, no matter how we look at it. There's no avoiding what has already been written. Even with that being true, I am learning to honor what's presented in front of me today. The present moment has nourished me a lot more lately than in the past. I hope you allow yourself to be encouraged with each step. Trust in your inner wisdom. Believe in your potential and continue evolving into the softest version of yourself.”

I. The Standard You Set

Leadership begins with your behavior:

  • What’s more powerful? A manager or coach or teacher who tells you the right thing to do?

  • Or one who shows you how to live and work by example?

People gravitate toward the standard you set, not the standard you request.

II. The Way to Love

You must cultivate activities that you love:

  • You must discover work that you do, not for its utility.

  • But for itself, whether it succeeds or not, whether you are praised for it or not.

  • Whether you are loved and rewarded for it or not, whether people know about it and are grateful to you for it or not.

How many activities can you count in your life that you engage in simply because they delight you and grip your soul?

Find them out, cultivate them, for they are your passport to freedom and to love.

III. The Art of Finding Our Way

Feeling lost at times doesn't always mean we're doing something wrong. The older I get, the more I look at my moments of wandering as an invitation to:

  • Find my way back home to myself.

  • Find my way back to presence.

  • Pay attention to the path ahead.

One of my biggest lessons is that I don't always have to know the way. I am allowed to be curious, and I am allowed to not know where the hell I am going.

As we navigate the coming days, may we all remember to be patient and present with ourselves. Where you are today on this path, with all its imperfections and detours, is precisely where you need to be. Release any shame or guilt you carry around not being where you think you ought to be. You’re getting there. You’re finding your way. Breathe.

VI. This Week, I Will

  1. Lead with honesty, clarity and action.

  2. Find moments to rest, reflect, and restore.

  3. Discover the good in the present moment.

  4. Release something that no longer serves me.

  5. Focus on cultivating a life that nourishes my inner self.

The Last Words…

“So often we spend our time living for tomorrow, eagerly seeking results that can only come with the slow buildup of consistent effort. Especially in regard to our own personal transformation, we forget that building new ways of being does not come quickly or with ease. A sturdy temple of peace with a strong foundation that can withstand storms does not appear overnight. Every breath we take happens in the present. Every advancement in our growth happens in the present. The wisdom that comes through feeling the truth of nature can only accumulate within us through our observation of the present. Even when we rightfully examine the past or plan for the future, the helpful information we receive and integrate arrives to us in the present.”
